Visas

Depending on our relations and bilateral agreements, nationals of certain countries can enter South Sudan without a visa. Others may be able to obtain entry visas upon arrival at any port of entry within the Republic of South Sudan.

In most cases, foreigners who wish to visit South Sudan for either business or pleasure are encouraged to process entry visas through any South Sudanese embassy in their country.

In they live in a country where there is no South Sudanese embassy, they should contact the embassy or consulate in the nearest country.

Types of visas 

Single entry visas

These are issued for single entry to persons who hail from countries that require a visa to enter South Sudan for either business or tourism. South Sudanese embassies or consulates are also authorized to issue multiple entry visas, depending on the reason for the visit.

Transit visas

These are issued to persons passing through South Sudan en route to other destinations. Transit visas are generally issued for periods not exceeding 72 hours.

Courtesy visas or visas for diplomats and government officials

These are visas issued to diplomatic, official and service passport holders coming into the country on official duty.

  • Foreign officials or diplomats travelling with diplomatic, official or service passports must bring an official letter (A Note Verbal) from the appropriate authorities.
  • Visas to diplomats are gratis (no visa fee will be assessed.

South Sudan is currently in the process of developing an eServices Portal, which would enable single window access to services being provided by the various South Sudan government entities, including Ministry of Interior and Department of e-Visa and Immigration Service.

Visa requirements

  • A completed and signed visa form (please attach to the visa form both original and photocopies of the required documents, including the passport photo page and yellow fever card).
  • A passport that is valid for at least six months before the expiry date.
  • The passport must have an unused page for visa endorsement.
  • Please allow a minimum of seven (7) working days after presentation, excluding weekends and public holidays, to inquire about the status of your visa application.
  • All applicants must submit their applications in person.
  • Filing a visa application does not guarantee that a visa will be issued automatically.
  • Failure to submit required documents may cause delays in the processing of the visa or even rejection of the application altogether.
  • Applicants can either collect their passports in person or delegate another person provided that he or she comes with a letter from the applicant and proof of identity, as well as the receipt issued as evidence of payment of visa fee.
  • Validity of the entry visa starts on the day the visa is issued.
  • All South Sudanese travelling to South Sudan on foreign passports are required to also apply for a visa.

Documents

  • An Invitation Letter from your firm or organisation in South Sudan explaining the purpose of your travel.
  • Company or organization’s registration certificate in South Sudan or a copy of the applicant’s contract with an organization, agency or company based in South Sudan.
  • For personal or family visits an ENTRY PERMIT is required from the concerned family or friends through the Immigration Department in South Sudan.
  • One recent passport size photo.
  • Certificate of vaccination for Yellow Fever.
  • Return ticket (Tourist Visa).
  • Address in South Sudan e.g. Hotel booking (Tourist Visa).
  • Bank statements showing sufficient funds to cover duration of stay in South Sudan (personal visit).

 
Visas for diplomats and government officials

NB: South Sudan’s Directorate of Nationality, Passports and immigration reserves the right to grant or deny visas to individuals.
