24 November 2023 (MFA&IC) The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has taken a significant stride in bolstering its disaster preparedness and response capabilities by officially signing the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Treaty.
The signing ceremony, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was attended by Ambassador Dr. Riek Puok Riek, the Director General of Multilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who signed the treaty on behalf of the Government of South Sudan.
The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. Banak Joshua Dei Wal from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs & Disaster Management. ARC was represented by Mr. Bright Mando, Senior Legal Counsel and Board Secretary, as well as Mr. Koffi Konin, Head of Government Services for East and Southern Africa.
This collaborative effort with ARC aims to facilitate close cooperation in planning, preparing, and responding to climate risks.
The signing ceremony serves as a testament to the government’s steadfast dedication to building resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate-related risks.
By joining the ARC Treaty, South Sudan has underscored its commitment to protecting its citizens and enhancing its capacity to deal with the challenges posed by climate change.
