19 July, 2023, Juba, SOUTH SUDAN – South Sudan and the State of Israel have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in a number of key sectors.
The MoU, which covers cooperation in some 10 key sectors, was signed on Tuesday and it outlines steps that both countries must take in order to enhance cooperation and deepen ties.
Director of International Laws and Treaties in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Akech Chol Ahou, hailed the signing of the MoU as an important milestone in the development of relations between Juba and Tel Aviv.
He pointed out that the document covered cooperation in key areas, particularly those related to environmental protection.
“Today we have a memorandum of understanding between the Republic of South Sudan and the State of Israel, agreeing to cooperate on almost 10 areas,” Ambassador Ayak said.
“The areas of cooperation are development cooperation, education and culture, agriculture, water, sport, health and medicine, urban industrial agricultural waste, green consumption, environmental protection, economic protection and other areas of mutual understanding,” the Ambassador explained.
Meanwhile, Israel’s ambassador to South Sudan, H.E. Gershon Kedar, underscored the importance of the MoU in deepening even further the good relations that exist between South Sudan and the State of Israel.
“We thought it is high time that we keep a legal framework for our cooperation, so that we will be able to enhance and further our cooperation and make things much easier,” according to Ambassador Kedar.
He expressed optimism that rectification of the MoU by both countries would set the stage for even stronger bilateral cooperation and relations.
