Hargeisa, SOMALILAND – Somaliland sent a message of congratulations to the people and government of South Sudan on the occasion of the country’s independence.
“Happy 12th Independence Day to our brothers and sisters in South Sudan,” according to a message from Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the eve of the independence celebrations.
“We celebrate your hard-won independence and wish you continued peace, prosperity, and stability,” it added.
South Sudan became an independent country on 9th July 2011, after decades of conflict with successive regimes in Khartoum.
Meanwhile, the Republic of Somaliland, remains an unrecognised sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden.
It is bordered by Djibouti to the northwest, Ethiopia to the south and west, and Somalia to the east.
