Norwegian Special Envoy to South Sudan Meets with the Deputy Foreign Minister

Juba, 29th January 2025 (MFA&IC) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya K. Kumba, met with H.E. Mr. Endre Stiansen, the Norwegian Special Envoy to the Republic of South Sudan, and H.E. Amb. Roar Haugsdal, the Norwegian Head of Mission to the country.

The meeting centered on bilateral cooperation between the two nations, the humanitarian situation, and the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Hon. Ambassador Semaya expressed gratitude for the envoy’s visit and warmly welcomed him to South Sudan. He highlighted that the country is entering a new phase of economic and political development and emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing the provisions of the peace agreement. Additionally, he acknowledged Norway’s support and stressed the importance of continued collaboration to enhance cooperation further.

Mr. Stiansen expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and mentioned that he was pleased to be back in South Sudan. He commended the government’s efforts and noted that the international community values South Sudan’s hospitality towards Sudanese refugees. Additionally, he indicated Norway’s eagerness to continue fostering close cooperation with South Sudan in the years to come.
