Juba, 22nd December, 2023 (MFA&IC), The Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Friday, held a briefing with Foreign Ambassadors accredited to the Republic of South Sudan and Representatives of United Nations Agencies.
The purpose of the briefing was to provide an update on the recent joint operation conducted on the roads in Juba City and the house-to-house search for weapons.
During the briefing, Hon. Ambassador Morgan expressed the government’s sincere apology for any inconvenience caused during the security checks exercise. He emphasized the government’s determination to collect arms from unauthorized individuals, with the aim of creating a safe and secure environment for all, including the diplomatic community.
Furthermore, Hon. Minister Morgan reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering relations with all countries and advancing the interests of South Sudan. He highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation and collaborative efforts in achieving peace, stability, and development in the region.
Hon. Ambassador Morgan talked about the upcoming 2024 elections in the country and sought the support and cooperation of the international community. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process and invited foreign ambassadors to observe the elections as a testament to South Sudan’s dedication to democratic principles.
The Hon. Minister Morgan extends the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gratitude to all the foreign ambassadors and UN agencies’ representatives for their continuous support and cooperation. Their engagement and partnership are instrumental in promoting peace, prosperity, and diplomatic relations between South Sudan and the international community.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Undersecretaries, and Director Generals from the relevant departments attended the event.
