Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Returns from Ethiopia

Juba, 17 February 2025 (MFA&IC) – The Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, returned this afternoon from his official mission to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During his visit, he attended the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, alongside H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who participated in the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Speaking to the press upon his arrival, Minister Goc shared insights from both the Executive Council and the African Union Summit. He reported that four out of six commissioners were elected, with the Commission for Peace and Security being re-elected during the Executive Council meeting. Additionally, the Foreign Minister and International Cooperation of Djibouti, H.E. Ambassador Mahamoud Ali Youssouf was elected as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, while the Algerian Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Selma Hadaddi, was elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission at the AU Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The Honorable Minister emphasized that the government of South Sudan, along with other African governments, fully participated in the meetings.
