Juba- 18,November 2024 (MAF&IC) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, met today with a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) led by Mr. Raouf Mazou, Assistant High Commissioner for Operations.
During the meeting, Hon. Goc acknowledged the essential work that (UNHCR) has carried out over the years. He reiterated the South Sudan government’s commitment to welcoming returnees ahead of the upcoming elections, ensuring that they can participate as full citizens of South Sudan. He expressed unwavering support for this strategy.
Hon. Goc also called on Global Donors to provide funding for refugees, highlighting the significant efforts made by host communities to coexist peacefully with Sudanese refugees.
Mr. Raouf Mazou, leading the UNHCR delegation, expressed gratitude to the South Sudan government for keeping its borders open to Sudanese refugees. He commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for its leadership in implementing the government’s Open Door Policy for refugees.
The UNHCR Team suggested that, South Sudanese nationals currently living as refugees in other countries should have an opportunity to participate in the upcoming elections if they are willing to return home voluntarily.
