Juba, 28 January 2025 (MFA&IC)—The Honorable Ambassador John Samuel Bwogo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, had the esteemed honor of signing the agreement alongside His Excellency Ambassador Odarigi Toshio, Head of Mission of Japan to the Republic of South Sudan, and Mr. Suzuki Tomohiro, Representative of JICA South Sudan. The grant agreement, valued at 64.4 million Japanese Yen, is a significant collaboration intended to elevate SSBC’s production capabilities.
Ambassador Bwogo conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the government and people of Japan for their steadfast support of the citizens of South Sudan. He underscored the importance of this project in enhancing SSBC’s service delivery, which will enable the corporation to offer a broader array of programs for the South Sudanese audience and beyond. He reaffirmed SSBC’s commitment to disseminating accurate information to the public.
Ambassador Toshio expressed his satisfaction in formalizing the agreement, emphasizing that the initiative aims to reinforce SSBC’s capacity to produce a diverse range of high-quality television programs. This endeavor is made possible through Japan’s Cultural Grant Assistance Scheme, with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) serving as the executing partner and operating under the guidance of the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology, and Postal Services.
He also noted that this project exemplifies Japan’s long-standing partnership with South Sudan, including JICA’s technical cooperation and capacity-building initiatives that have strengthened media institutions and enhanced the competencies of journalists, thereby improving the flow of information throughout the nation. Ambassador Toshio reaffirmed Japan’s unwavering commitment to being a reliable and supportive partner for South Sudan.
Mr. Suzuki, the Representative of JICA South Sudan, highlighted that the project seeks to augment the skills and expertise of SSBC personnel in key areas, including journalism, broadcasting, television production, and equipment management. He emphasized that the initiative will also provide high-quality equipment necessary for effective program production.
Furthermore, Hon. Dr. Yath Awan Yath, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, expressed profound gratitude to the Japanese government and JICA for their invaluable contributions to this project. He conveyed his pleasure in witnessing the signing of the agreement, which he believes will play a pivotal role in enhancing program production at SSBC.
