20 July, 2023, Juba, SOUTH SUDAN – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation held a dinner on Thursday in honour of the newly-accredited ambassadors to South Sudan.
Speaking at the event, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Deng Dau Deng, expressed readiness to work and cooperate with them, particularly in areas of common interest.
“H.E. President Salva Kiir has welcomed you all and directed us to cooperate and support each other; we’ve also been directed by the President to be able to start a conversation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil to open an embassy there as well as in Australia,” Hon. Deng explained.
The Acting Minister further pledged his government’s full cooperation with the newly-accredited ambassadors and their respective countries.
He also underscored the important role South Sudan is playing in international peace and security, citing the recent deployment of South Sudanese troops on a peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
On his part, H.E. Ambassador Jandyr Ferreira Dos Santos, the Head of Mission of Brazil to South Sudan, who spoke on behalf of newly-accredited ambassadors, congratulated the people of South Sudan for their recently celebrated independence.
“We are deeply honoured and humbled to represent our countries in Juba; Africa is a brother to Brazil, and we look forward to cooperating with South Sudan,”, he added.
The newly-accredited ambassadors included, Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Alsada of Qatar, Dr. Fahad Mashari Althafiri, representing the State of Kuwait, H. E. Aboubaker Hassane Dan Sokoto of Niger and Julia Niblett the Australian ambassador resident in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Hon. Josephine Joseph Lagu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Hon. Albino Akol Atak and the Managing Director of Nilepet Eng. Bernard Amour Makeny, attended the event, amongst others.
