Ministry of Foreign Affairs launches official website and Diplomatic Journal
Juba, South Sudan 17 July, 2023 (MFA&IC) As part of celebrating its establishment following South Sudan’s independence in 2011, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation unveiled its official website and diplomatic journal on Monday, according to the Honourable Deng Dau Deng, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Presidential Affairs and guest of honour, as well as officials from various government institutions, diplomatic missions, and United Nations Agencies, inaugurated the launch at the Pyramid Hotel.
Dr. Marial acknowledged the diplomatic Mission for attending the occasion commemorating the ministry’s 12th anniversary, as well as congratulating the Ministry on its website and diplomatic journal.
“Your website is very important strategically for this country, and will be passing on information. It will help our friends; it will help our partners how to come and help”, He said. He stressed the need for the ministry to consider the issue of diversity.
Hon. Deng began by thanking previous Ministers for their contributions to the Ministry’s creation. Both the Website and the diplomatic journal, he says, will be critical in boosting South Sudan’s diplomatic efforts and encouraging transparency.
“This day was dedicated to the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which was on 12th July, 2011”, Hon. Deng said.
He also stated that the website will serve as a virtual portal, containing a variety of information regarding South Sudan’s foreign policies, diplomatic activities, investment prospects, and international cooperation efforts.
E-government ICT policy aims to provide services.
Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services Jacob Mayaiju Baba Korok congratulated the ministry, saying the government realised the importance of digital technology in the country’s development.
“That is why the ICT policy of the e-government was considered as a tool to deliver services and information to its citizens and the international community at large”, he said.
Hon. Mayen Dut Wol, the Ministry’s Undersecretary, started by saying that the primary goals of this website are to strengthen engagement with foreign counterparts, diplomatic missions accredited to South Sudan, NGOs, and UN agencies operating in South Sudan and beyond.
South Sudan, as a new state, needs to communicate with the rest of the world, according to UNDP Country Coordinator Dr. Samuel Doe. Furthermore, having a functioning website allows the rest of the world to interact with South Sudan.
“We have already seen South Sudan’s leadership demonstrating excellence when it comes to regional peace, thanks to his excellency, the President of this Republic,” UNDP representative added.
