Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Meets with Chargé d’Affaires of the Sudan Embassy

Juba, 6 February 2025 (MFA&IC) – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya K. Kumba, met with H.E. Amb. Mubarak Mahjoub Musa, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Republic of Sudan to South Sudan, to discuss bilateral issues.

During their meeting, they discussed status of the voluntary return process for Sudanese nationals from Juba to Port Sudan, as well as the planned voluntary return of South Sudanese citizens from Sudan, and the status of the South Sudanese in Sudan, in particular in Khartoum State.

The Honorable Deputy Minister welcomed Ambassador Musa and expressed heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery for the Head of Mission, Amb. Issam Karrar. He assured Amb. Musa of the South Sudan government’s commitment to facilitating the voluntary return of Sudanese nationals and maintaining an open border policy to accommodate the continuous influx of Sudanese refugees.

In response, Amb. Musa praised the South Sudan government for its hospitality towards Sudanese citizens and committed to cooperating on the voluntary return of South Sudanese from Sudan.

Hon. Amb. Semaya also expressed concerns about the status of South Sudanese nationals in Sudan, particularly in Khartoum State, following recent arrests in Omdurman. He urged the government of Sudan to provide information regarding the number, whereabouts, and charges against the South Sudanese nationals arrested in Khartoum State.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing constructive engagement and collaboration to address mutual concerns and current challenges promptly.
