Juba, 11 February 2025 (MFA&IC)– The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Honorable Ambassador Monday Semaya Kumba, convened an introductory meeting with the newly appointed Interim Chair of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), Ambassador Major General George Aggrey Owinow, alongside the outgoing chair, Ambassador Major General Charles Tai Gituai.
Hon. Kumba extended a warm welcome to the new chair, recognizing the invaluable contributions of RJMEC in advancing the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement. He expressed his deep appreciation for the pivotal role played by Ambassador Maj. Gen. Gituai within the peace monitoring body and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a spirit of collaboration as they move forward. Hon. Kumba underscored the necessity of enhancing dialogue and intensifying efforts to address pertinent cooperation challenges.
During the meeting, Ambassador Maj. Gen. Gituai lauded the government’s proactive measures in reconstituting vital institutions, such as the National Constitution Review Commission (NCRC), the Political Parties Council (PPC), and the National Election Commission (NEC). He shared his positive interactions with South Sudanese stakeholders and conveyed his dedication to the successful realization of the Revitalized Peace Agreement. Gituai encouraged the government to make effective use of the extension period, demonstrating resolute political will as the December 2026 elections approach, to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
In his remarks, Ambassador Maj. Gen. Owinow expressed his eagerness to contribute positively to the ongoing efforts in South Sudan as he embarks on his new role. He pledged to build on the accomplishments of his predecessor and continue the collaborative work essential for peace and stability in the region.
