44th African Union Executive Council Summit Focuses on Peace, Integration, and Development

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 14th February 2024 (MFA&IC) The 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union commenced today at the African Union Headquarters, with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan among the attendees.

The summit aims to prioritize peace, integration, and development as key agenda items.

During the 2024 summit, African leaders will meticulously evaluate how the continent can maintain its momentum in tackling issues related to peace, security, regional integration, and development.

The annual gathering serves as an opportunity to assess the progress made in addressing the security situation and conflicts in certain member states.

Furthermore, it seeks to provide innovative recommendations for achieving sustainable resolutions and restoring peace.

Prominent speakers at the official opening of the Executive Council included AU Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Taye Atske Selassie, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, and Chair of the AU Executive Council Dhoihir Dhoulkamal.

The 44th African Union Executive Council Summit aspires to pave the way for a more peaceful, integrated and developed African continent.
